A classic fall favourite is a cozy fireplace. By adding the right touches and simply switching some of your current pieces out, you can create the perfect mantel display.
You’ll want to start by clearing out any pieces from last season that make the space look too “summery”. Think about removing anything with pastel or bright tones that could confuse the environment. Next start with your focal piece, this could be a mirror, wall art or even old window panes. Windowpanes offer a beautiful vintage feel (and you can find them at most thrift stores or vintage shops) Alternatively, if you already have a focal point on your wall that you wish to keep, we are all for it! Just make sure its more on the timeless side with no distracting colours or prints.
The dining table sees a lot of additional use this time of year, so why not make it more memorable? There are a few simple steps you can take that will make it look like it was done by a pro.
First start with a clean canvas, making a beautiful table scape starts with a classic tabletop. Begin with a beautiful runner or placemats, you can even DIY your own by finding a fabric that perfectly suits you. We love Tonic Living and Fabric Land for easy shopping. Regardless of whether you buy or DIY, pick something that has some neutral tones in it to stand the test of time and bring out other elements on the table. If you’re more into the prints and patterns, (which we fully support by the way!) pick a pattern with a couple of colours so that you have options mixing in another colour for the rest of your table. Try mixing a pattern with solids to create a dynamic look.
Next, think about dishes and cutlery, whether you like more traditional or minimal/modern white is always a classic. But lookout for some coloured options that may just take things up a notch. A soft clay tone or a punchy black will elevate any table setting. Also, think about different shapes like square or rectangular, both can add a nice touch of drama. Cutlery can stay classic or opt for an alternative finish or texture, a matte finish or natural textured handle adds a lovely touch. Brining in this element will amplify your style and elevate the entire setting.
Finally, think about centrepieces. Here is where everything comes together, whether you’re into loud and bright colours, or soft cozy tones this is the time to shine. If you’re into the colourful option, we love the idea of adding two contrasting colours. Mustard accents with warm plum coloured florals or bring out the jewel tones with a warm plaid consisting of deep blues, reds and burgundy. If you’re more into the neutrals, texture is your best friend. To emphasize the layers you’ve got going on you’ll want that texture to differentiate the pieces. Next, you’ll want greenery to help break it up and we love the idea of adding pine cones or fresh white pumpkins to the centre.
