Home decor has been a strange beast since early 2020. We have a renewed sense of value in our homes and have put that to the test. If your home is anything like ours are, they have become an office, a school, a playground, an improvement project and a warm hug when you need it. There is so much value in having a space that reflects who you are and your home decor needs. All of this is offset by the fact that it is harder than ever to renovate, purchase home decor products and make small changes to our homes thanks to Covid-19. Here at Si & Oui, we thought it might be a great idea to discuss some design things we can do around the house to freshen up. It has been our experience that small changes to colours, layout and fabrics can easily improve your mood and draw on positive feelings, so why not give a few of these a try.
Pantone announced their colour(s!) of the year back in December of 2020, and while we may not have seen much of PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray and PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating in the stores, we think it might be fun to tackle the following tips with those colours in mind. According to Pantone, the colours are meant to represent “resilience, determination and hopefulness” which we could all use right about now.
Prioritize your own comfort and happiness.
Forget about resale and longevity, pick colours that make you happy. Home decor should be personal, evoke positivity and focus on comfort. Here are some inspiring home decor and design ideas that illustrate how to bring colour into your home.

Be bold with textures
Rethink the way you use materials. If you are considering renovating, resurfacing or refinishing something in your home, consider something off the beaten path. Concrete, stucco, siding and even glass can add huge textural impact to your home without adding a dramatic colour.

Listen to your gut
If you love something, and especially if you have loved it for years, then go for it. Why not? We all have a habit of second guessing ourselves, so why not try listening to your gut? Here are some daring ways we’ve seen this year’s pantone colour used in home decor.

Shop local for one of a kind finds
One unique and bold home decor piece can make an entire room and these pieces are more often than not made by local artisans and craftspeople. We suggest adding one thing to your space that is designed locally and is completely unique.
We hope this has encouraged you to do a few small things around the house to bring a little joy and sunshine inside. Si & Oui was founded by Lindsay Agnew and Vanessa Galle.
